Records and History Updated

The Records and History sections of the web site have been updated to include the results of the 2011-2012 season.  This year's team made a significant impact on these areas.  Here's a summary of the changes:

Season Records: Cody Walburn, Ben Pfister, Derek Roe, and Chantz Luginbill all claimed spots in the top season wins by an individual.  Cody is tied for third at 40 wins and Ben and Derek took over the fourth best spot with 39 wins each.  Chantz was right behind them with 38 wins, good for a tie for the fifth most wins.  Derek also added his name to the list for the most pins in a season.  His 23 pins ties him for the seventh most.
Career Records:  Derek Roe and Zeke Schultz finished their careers as the number 2 and 3 wrestlers in career wins at Adams Central, both passing Derek's Dad Troy Roe.  Derek finished with 139 career wins and Zeke ended with 128.  These same two wrestlers made two other career lists; most pins and most takedowns.  Derek's 69 pins gives him the fourth most and Zeke tied for the ninth most pins at 55.  Derek's 283 career takedowns ties him for the third most and Zeke is right behind him with the fourth most at 271. The final career record category, Consecutive Wins, added one member from the 2011-2012 team.  Ben Pfister had the seventh most wins in a row with 31.
Brother Records:  Zeke's 35 wins in 2011-2012 pushed him and his brother Trey into first place for wins by brother combinations with 244.  That gave them 15 more wins than the McAfee brothers, John, Adam, and Vince.
History:  This year's school record 27 victories was added to the Records by Year page and the Records by Team page was updated to reflect the wins and losses for this year's dual meets.  The Jets wrestled three teams for the first time ever this year.  They scored victories over Brownsburg and Prairie Heights while losing their match with Elkhart Memorial.  Finally, Chantz Luginbill added his name honored list of State Qualifiers with his 2011-2012 finish.

The 2011-2012 team has set a high standard for next year's team to shoot for.  Set your goals high, guys.

Most Valuable Varsity Wrestler - Chantz Luginbill

Congratulations to these young men and the entire team on a very successful season.

Middle School ACAC

The Middle School Jets won the ACAC tournament for the second year in a row by holding off a hard charging Heritage squad.  This was probably the closest finish in the history of the Middle School ACAC tournament as AC won by a mere 2 points. Tucker Miller (90 pounds) and Karthon McCullough (145) won championships for the Jets.  You can see results of the championship and consolation matches here.

Individual State Finals

The season ended for the BAGUBAs Friday night at the state finals when Chantz Luginbill lost to eventual state champion Brian Harvey, 19-6.  Chantz showed the true spirit of a BAGUBA as he aggressively attacked Harvey, uninhibited by his #1 ranking in the state polls.  Eventually, Harvey's skill on his feet proved too much as he repeatedly won the scrambles for take downs.  Qualifying for state was still a well-earned reward for the dedication and extra work Chantz has put in the past two years.  Congratulations of a great season, Chantz.

Fort Wayne Snider Individual Semi-State

Chantz Luginbill was the only bright spot in a day of disappointments for the Jets.  Chantz pinned KC Corey of Snider in his first match and dominated Tommy Kendall of Elkhart Memorial to earn a trip to next week's state finals.  He then lost a close match in the semi-finals and ended with a fourth place finish.  The rest of the BAGUBAs didn't fair as well as it seemed like every close match went against them.  Five Adams Central wrestlers advanced to the second round and had opportunities to advance to state, but Ben Pfister and Derek Roe lost overtime matches while Cody Walburn lost a 1-point decision.  Derek Ellinger drew the eventual champion of his weight class in that round.  You can see the championship and consolation results along with other Adams Central match results and a list of the number of wrestlers advancing by team on this page.

Jay County Individual Regional

The Jets tied Bellmont for the most wrestlers advancing to next week's semi-state with eight.  Chantz Luginbill had the only championship for the BAGUBAs while Derek Roe and Ben Pfister finished second.  Andy Oliver, Cody Walburn, Derek Ellinger, and Zeke Schultz all finished third while Robby Shoaf placed fourth.  A list of the number of wrestlers advancing by team and the results from the championship and consolation rounds can be found here.

Jay County Individual Sectional

Adams Central had their best sectional in years by advancing 7 wrestlers to the championship round and advancing 11 to next weeks region, but in the end it wasn't quite enough as Bellmont eked out a 6 point win, 228 - 222.  Cody Walburn, Chantz Luginbill, and Ben Pfister won championships for the Jets while Andy Oliver, Derek Ellinger, Derek Roe, and Zeke Schultz placed second.  Zac Yoder, Luke Liter, Alex Bollenbacher, and Robby Shoaf also advanced to the regional by placing in the top 4.  You find the team scores and results from the championship and consolation rounds on this page.

ACAC Conference Tournament

The BAGUBAs claimed the conference tournament title to go with their regular season championship in impressive manner.  AC finished with 230.5 points, 41 points better than second place South Adams.  Cody Walburn, Derek Ellinger, Derek Roe, and Zeke Schultz won individual titles for the Jets while Chantz Luginbill and Ben Pfister finished second.  This was the first tournament championship and outright conference championship for Adams Central since the 2004-2005 season.  You find the team scores and results from the championship and consolation rounds here.

Warren Central Super Dual

AC traveled to Indianapolis to face their toughest competition of the year.  This super dual featured two top 20 teams and another that has recived votes for the top 20.  The Jets were competitive in every match, but came away with a 2-3 record for the day.  They lost to host Warren Central 35-30, defeated TC Howe 69-6, lost to Ben Davis 39-38, defeated Northwestern 81-0, and lost to Roncalli 46-19.  Cody Walburn, Derek Roe, Zeke Schultz, and Ben Pfister all went undefeated for the day.  The highlight for the BAGUBAs was when Derek Roe topped 4th ranked Levi Moss of Ben Davis by a 9-7 score.  Zeke Schultz also defeated a ranked wrestler, Logan Zielinski of Ben Davis, with a takedown in the final seconds.  You can find the individual results of each match on this page.

Wrestling Jet Invitational (Super Dual)

This one wasn't for the feint of heart.  The Jets won their first four matches pretty easily, beating Bluffton 70-6, Southwood 64-12, FW Snider 49-24, and Brownsburg 57-15. Then, came their old nemesis, Bishop Dwenger.  AC gave up six pins and railed 36 to 24 with two matches to go.  Cody Walburn pinned his opponent in 1:07 to keep their hopes alive.  It came down to Derek Ellinger, who not only had to win, but pin his man for the Jets to have a chance.  The Dwenger wrestler stayed off his back and kept  the match close going into the last seconds, but Ellinger succeeded in flipping him to his back and pinning him with only six seconds left in the match.  That tied the score at 36 -36.  AC was awarded one team point for winning the tie breaker on the third criteria, most matches won, so the Jets won the match and the tournament.  The victory over Bluffton also secured the regular season ACAC championship for the BAGUBAs.  The individual results of each match can be found here.

Adams Central 54 Heritage 19

One down and one to go.  The Jets defeated conference foe Heritage by a 54-19 score leaving only Bluffton between them and a regular season ACAC championship.  AC was led by pins form Cody Walburn, Derek Roe, and Ben Pfister and a technical fall decision by Chantz Luginbill, 17-2.  The BAGUBAs will host their own super dual this Saturday at the Jet Invitational, starting at 9.  The individual match results and JV matches can be seen on this page.

Adams Central 56 Leo 21

The BAGUBAs moved one step closer to the regular season ACAC championship with a 56-21 victory over conference foe Leo.  The match started at 145 and was close through the middle and upper weights as Leo held a 21-18 lead after the 220 pound weight class.  Joe Fuelling changed the momentum for the Jets with a hard fought comeback win at heavyweight, 9-6.  The Jets went on to sweep the remaining five matches and pull away for an easy victory.  The summary of the individual results and JV matches can be seen on here.

Bellmont 36 Adams Central 18

AC could not win the swing matches against county rival Bellmont and fell by a 36-18 score.  Six matches were determined by four or less points, but the Jets were only able to win one of those close matches.  Derek Roe remained unbeaten with a 17-2 tech fall win and Ben Pfister defeated returning state qualifier Ben Baker to highlight the evening for AC fans.  A summary of the individual results and tonight's JV matches can be seen on this page.

New Haven Super Duals

The Jets faced their toughest dual meets of the year at New Haven. They won the "purple" pool by defeating Maconaquah 52-18, FW Wayne 48-22, Prairie Heights 61-12, and New Haven 51-17.  That qualified them for the champion ship match against tenth ranked Elkhart Memorial.  The BAGUBA's suffered their firs defeat of the year in that match, falling by a score of 50-20, though the match was closer than the score indicates. Cody Walburn, Derek Ellinger,Derek Roe, and Ben Pfister went undefeated on the day.  The individual dual results for the duals can be seen here.

ACAC Quad Duals

AC dominated the quad duals at Garret by scoring more than 60 points against every opponent. The BAGUBA's defeated Woodlan 61-9, Southern Wells 63-12, and Garrett 62-10.  Derek Roe and Chantz Luginbill pinned all three of their opponents while Joe Fuelling won his only two matches by pin.  You can find the individual dual results this page.

Delta Duals / AC JV Invitational

The BAGUBA's turned in their second dominating super dual performance of the year as they walked though the Delta Duals. They bettered their record from Northwestern, this time only losing 8 individual matches out of 70.  Ten Jets went undefeated for the day with Chantz Luginbill and Taylon Elzey pinning all five of their opponents.  You can find he individual dual results here.

Meanwhile, back home the JV Jets were participating in their own invitational.  All nine AC wrestlers who were entered in the tournament placed.  Luke Marbach (182) and Mat Miller (195) were weight class champions.  As a team the BAGUBA's placed fourth out of 14 teams.  The championship and consolation round results can be viewed on this page.

Adams Central 36 South Adams 28

AC broke South Adams' dual meet win streak of 44 consecutive match victories with a hard fought 36-28 victory.  The Jets won 9 of the 14 weight classes, but could only manage three pins.  The third by heavyweight Joe Fuelling sewed up the match.  The other six wins came by regular decision as the BAGUBA's showed their heart by winning every close match.  A summary of the individual results and tonight's JV matches can be seen on this page.
